Research Position in Defense and Security

The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defense and security to support Sweden's military and civil defense. The research spans several areas, such as underwater, cyber defense, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defense, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive substances), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analyses. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defense capability.

Do you have an interest in technology and defense? Would you like to work on exciting projects in defense and security with international collaborations? Can you analyze complex problems and identify the essential? We are now looking for researchers who want to solve complex valuation issues in collaboration with the Armed Forces and FMV.

About the Position

You will work with the valuation and analysis of properties and performance regarding complex systems and platforms in future military scenarios across all defense arenas. Analyses and valuations are conducted using models, tools, simulations, and methods that we develop. The work is based on scientific methods and relies on the results of experiments and physical models of the systems we work with. The results are used to support the development work and procurements of the Armed Forces and FMV. The work is project-based, where we work both independently and in groups.

Do You Have the Competence Profile We Need?

Requirements

We are looking for someone who has a doctoral degree with:

  • a PhD or
  • a licentiate degree and relevant work experience according to the employer's assessment

experience in analytical problem-solving
good knowledge in analysis, simulation, and valuation of complex systems
experience in one of the areas of dynamic systems, mathematical analysis, optimization theory, mathematical systems theory, mathematical statistics, or equivalent area according to the employer's assessment
good ability to communicate in spoken and written Swedish and English.

To succeed in the role, you need to enjoy working in teams and have good collaboration skills. We also want you to have strong analytical skills, be self-driven, take initiative, and be goal- and result-oriented.

We place great importance on personal qualities.

Meritorious

It is meritorious if you have experience in:

  • model development
  • methods for modeling and analysis of complex systems in modern programming environments
